Population of Poland: interesting figures

 Poland is one of the largest countries in Europe in terms of territory. At the same time, the population is one of the most mono-ethnic. This means that the vast majority of the inhabitants are Poles.

Back in 2011, when the census was conducted, approximately 90% of the inhabitants referred to themselves as ethnic Poles. And if we talk about 2022, the situation has not changed significantly. This is largely due to the ethnic policy of the state. Refugees here have minimal rights, opportunities, and social privileges. Poland is not an attractive place for those who want to leave their country and move to Europe. Poland is mostly used as a transit country.

About the population in numbers

Now let us talk specifically about the population of the Polish state. Alas, like in most European countries, the population in Poland is gradually decreasing. In other words, the mortality rate exceeds the birth rate.

According to recent estimates, about 38.4 million people live in the country. This is the eighth rate among European countries and the sixth among European Union member states. And the average Poland population density is 123 people per square kilometer.

And there are some more interesting figures about the population of this country.

  • The ratio of men to women. Women traditionally outnumber men. For 18.4 million men there are just over 20 million women;

  • Cities and villages. Of course, more people live in Poland's cities than in the countryside. Although the real difference in numbers is small. It is 23 million urban residents versus 15 million rural residents;

  • Life expectancy. The average in Poland for men is almost 72 years, while for women it is 80 years. As a result, the overall average life expectancy is 76 years;

  • Average age. Regardless of gender, it is 38 years. In men it is 36.5, while in women it is 40;

  • Mortality. Per one thousand people, the mortality rate is 10.1;

  • Fertility. It is slightly lower, and amounts to 10.04 people.

Everything is relative. Poland is one of those countries that are gradually developing, becoming more attractive to foreign investments. Also Poland is an important strategic partner of the NATO alliance and a key component in the formation and development of the European Union.

Unfortunately, the demographic situation in all European countries is gradually deteriorating. That is, the population is shrinking. But experts consider this to be a natural process. And there is nothing terrible about it.
